Library Scavenger Hunt
There was a distinct air of anticipation amongst the Year 7 and 8 students this week as each class arrived for an introduction to the exciting space that is our 7/8 Library. Word had filtered around that there was a scavenger hunt during the lesson with chocolate for the winning team!
- The period in history for each blue team was Medieval Times
- A team checks to ensure they have all their answers
As the students entered they were divided into teams of five, with each group given a basket, an instruction sheet made up of QR codes, an answer sheet, an iPad and a laptop. Each group then had to find a fiction book, a non-fiction book, a magazine and an ebook related to a particular period of history (Pre-History, Ancient Worlds, Medieval Times, Australian History, The Wars, Post-War Era) and answer questions using the internet and iPad apps. (Copies of all the documents we used can be found here).
- A Pre-History eagerly scanning the next QR code
- Each group had to locate their books on the shelves
This was a truly engaging experience, with the students all actively participating and keenly focused on answering their questions as quickly and accurately as possible. Those who finished early had fun creating short movie clips of what they had learned using the iPad app Funny Movie Maker.
- An Ancient Worlds team with their basket of books and magazines
- QR code questions, instructions and answer sheet
To make the experience even more memorable, each student was given a ‘show bag’ as they left containing information about our 7/8 Book Club, our 7/8 Maker Spaces Club, ‘power searching’ information, bookmarks, a Library pen and a lollipop! We thank Ms Hunter for her hard work in creating this wonderful learning experience for our boys, and hope to see a lot of them back in the Library on a regular basis.
